Shaking Puppy Syndrome (SPS) is a form of hypomyelination, a severe neurological disorder, found in the English Springer Spaniel. The disease causes involuntary tremors and results in early death. It is caused by an X-linked recessive mutation to the gene PLP1.
Características clínicas
Los síntomas ya se observan a las 2 semanas de edad. Los cachorros afectados que sufren SPS tienen dificultades para levantarse, moverse y comer. La enfermedad progresa con la edad y dará lugar a convulsiones. Los perros afectados también son más pequeños en tamaño en comparación con los perros no afectados. La esperanza de vida de los perros afectados no excederá los 3-4 meses después del diagnóstico.
